SSRS – Disable auto update of parameter datasets

Problem

In SSRS 2008 and SSRS 2008 R2, changing the main dataset wiht Report Designer overwrites the parameter datasets, which will erase any customization you’ve made.

Solution

Right click the report and choose View Code.

Find the parameter dataset  and modify it.

Add the line

<rd:SuppressAutoUpdate>true</rd:SuppressAutoUpdate>

Like this:

<Query>

<DataSourceName>DataSource1</DataSourceName>

<CommandText> …

<rd:SuppressAutoUpdate>true</rd:SuppressAutoUpdate>

<rd:Hidden>false</rd:Hidden>

</Query>

Finally, don´t forget to save.
